LORD BUDDHA AND URELA

Saky muni ( Lord Buddha ) as he is also know in sacred literature attached the supreme state of enlightenment called Sammaan bodhi he spent 6 long years of penance and meditation in a wood in the Urela , Uruvilva modern Bodh Gaya formerly known as URELA . Lord Buddha ( siddharth ) has early name siddharth was the son of shuddhodan of kapilavastu ( Nepal ) and belonged to the shaky clan a kshatriy. Ultimately he renounced the life of ease and comfort and having left his father wife Yashodhara and the newly born child Rahul pressed forwarded in search of truth. The sights of an I'll person,old and infirm man a dead body and a serene monk had put him in to a reflective and meditative mood and he was no longer a happy youngman and began to thik of ways to remove the iis of wordt life .Here we have not to go in to details about his various unfruitful attempts to find enlightenment in the ascetic meditation to secure peace by a course of self mortification . The ascetic meditation affected by the teachers of Brahmanical philosophy did not satisfied him . He wanders from place to place and at last become to Gaya state Bihar ( India ) which was a part of the then Magadh kingdom Bimbisar and Ajatashatru 544 B.C. Here along with five disciples of Rudrakramput ( Rudraka ) an eminent teacher of Rajagrih district Nalanda Bihar he began to meditate on the Brahm yoni Hill Gaya .But Buddha did not find any peace and come to Ireland Uruvilva van the Forest of uruvilva . This place fascinated him . At Uruvela kashyap took a big for the performance of the shadvarshika varta a penance for 6 years and remained there along with 5 mendicant friend Kaundiny , Bappa , Bhadiya ,Mahamana and Assagi who became after wards his first five disciples meditating with rigid Penance and austerities. Thus he reduced him self toa skeleton and was so stuck to the place that winters summer and rain could not dislodge him and he appeared asa fierce spirit to the passers by a d the villagers . At the end of the fast lasting 6 long years along with 5 other ascetics he realised that the mortified the flesh had br LMought him no nearer to the Truth he sought and that rigid penance and austerity where not the means of obtaining deliverance from the evils and sufferings of the mundane life .After spending 6 years in practising austerities in the sacred locality known as Urvela Kashyap broke fast by parking the milk rice offers to him by Sujata under the Aapaka banyan tree ( pipal vriksh ) . The 5 ascetic left him in anger at his change of ideas about life and went to Banaras and began to live in Mrigadava of Rishi patanam saranath.
The tradition about the place from which he proceeded to the vajrasana ( Diamond throne ) handed down by the Chinese pilgrim Fa Hian 380 A.D . Relates that he come to a cave where he sat down and prayed that he might be granted a sign to show whether he was to arrive at the condition of perfect wisdom . Immediately his shadow appeared on the dron wall the earth shok and the mountain quaked and he heard the voices of the Devas telling him that was not the place where he could obtain enlightenment. He the passed on toward the village of senani and met on his way a grass cutter Sotthiya , who offered him some bundles of grass which he accepted. Having arrived at the Bodhi tree ( pipal vriksh ) he scattered the grass on the ground and sarson facing towards east and made a vow not get up till he obtained the supreme knowledge. On the barasana which is said to have sprung up there miraculously Shaky Muni lord Budha seated him self and began a long vigil giving himself up to higher and higher from of meditation .A great struggle between good and evils sensuous desires tempted him with the pleasures of the flesh in vain . Other temptation also followed all of which he conquered. Thus in the first watch of the night of the final struggle with Mara he gained a knowledge of all his former state of existence in the second of all present states of being andon the third the knowledge of the chainal causes and effects at the dawn of day his spiritual illumination was complete he knew all things and before Lord Buddha the enlightened.
