The village Lath is reported to be an important historical place of antiquity . Lath in the Hulasaganj block in Jehanabad district. A village Lath on the south eastern boundary of the Jehanabad district situated 2 miles north of Sanstha. Here on extraordinary monolith lies in the open fields . It consists of a granite column measuring 53 .5 feet in length by an average of 3 feet in diameter. This immerse column is lying horizontally on the ground pointing north and sauth and about half of it is below the surface of the field . Local tradition asserts that it was intended to be placed in the chandokhar tank at Shararat 8 miles to the east and accounts for its present position by the following legend Shararat was ruled over by Shararat Raja chandra sen , who had a fight with his sister's son , whom he slew but after the battle he found that the he could not release from his hand the dagger with which he had done the deed . One day a thirsty calf came towards him when the Raja chandra sen placed lata of water before it which it drank up greedily and the dagger at once became loose in his grasp.In remembrance of this event he determined to make a lake which would extend so far as his horse when let loose should circle round. The minister apprehensive of the horse making a longer circuit than convenient selected the present north east corner of the chandigarh tank at Shararat . Where there is now a small ruined temple as the starting point of the horse turning his head south wards so that the hills on the south would be the limit of the size of the chandigarh tank in that direction. The ground thus marked out forms the chandokhar talav or chandokhar pokhar . The next morning the Raja Chandr sen hi self dig out five basket of heart and his follower s did the same except one Rajput soldier who sat with his award in his hand . When the Raja Chandra sen asked him why he did not dig out five baskets of earth like the rest , he relief that he was a soldier and only used to carry arms . On hearing this the Raja gave hume a letter to Bhi khan king of Lanka or cylinder and iedereen him to bring back a lath or minority to place in the middle of the lake . Lanka ' s king Bhi khan according gave up the gillar which the soldier carrier off but as he got near Shararat the cock crew and he was there fire olvides to drop it at once at the place where it still lies . Another legend related by the villages states that the devas , who were carrying the gillar by night to janakpur in Nepal droped it hearing a mouse in the village and thinking that the villages were starring with the on coming of daan . The house they heart was merey of a potter working at night and sunder then the posters have been courses and no potter will live in the village .
